Job Description

The purpose of the Laboratory Technician role is to provide support to the Quality Control Chemists allowing testing to be performed as efficiently as possible.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Performs daily housekeeping activities in the laboratories i.e. sweeping, mopping, etc.
• Empty, rinse glassware, perform dishwashing and restock the cleaned glassware in shelfs daily.
• Monitors and refills water, gas, organic solvents, and inorganic acids in laboratories.
• Creates inventory, monitors, order, receive, and replenish reagents, chemicals, gas tank, and lab suppliers and maintain the storage place. 
• Takes out empty or expired chemicals from inventory (i.e. LIMS) and cabinet and work with EHS for the lab pack list. 
• Packages/organizes shipment of samples, materials, equipment, etc. to other Veranova sites/contract laboratories.
• Works with EHS to appropriately label, handle, maintain and dispose of laboratory wastes (acid, base, organic, non-hazard, hazard, sharp, etc) in compliance with current environmental regulations. 
• Executes safety initiatives in the laboratory that maintain and improve the work environment.
• Orders, receives, and delivers chemicals and reagents as per analyst request.
• Maintain the document for shipping, ordering and sampling. 

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must be adept at using a computer and able to update documents in word/Excel and other microsoft suite products. 
• Ability to lift 50lbs is essential.
• Must be able to be trained to work with respirators.
• Well-developed supervisory, organizational, skills.
• Must have excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage tasks assigned daily.
• The Lab Tech will be asked to seek opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Must be able to adapt to changing laboratory needs and be proactive.

Special Factors

• The job includes regular activity in the laboratory which includes wearing personal protective equipment along with possibly handling controlled and highly potent substances.
